Grandpa Rufus
Grandpa Rufus is a Southern California singer-songwriter working in the tradition of 1970s outlaw country, roots rock, and blues — whiskey-warm, plainspoken songs about the life he's actually lived. Since 2022 he's been a fixture in the TikTok music community, where a scattered crowd of independent songwriters found each other in live rooms and turned nightly performances into a real scene. Out of that came Thursday Night Thunder, the weekly livestream he co-hosts with Roll Cage Mary — delivery weekly shows going on four years, and a standing invitation for players and listeners to show up, swap songs, and stick around. His catalog reflects it. Alongside originals like "Popcorn and Coffee," "At Least I'm The King," and "Pancakes Just For Two," he releases live recordings straight from the stream — full-set documents like Live June 20, 2024 and Songs For My Friends and singles of covers he did of the TikTok artist community — because he'd rather hand people the honest take than the polished one. Collaborators along the way have included Wayne Gottstine, Mr Barry Spears, and the broader circle of friends the stream keeps pulling in. In 2024, he had the battle of his life when he was diagnosed with Throat Cancer that took away his ability to swallow and even talk, but he spent his time performing through the pain and in 2025 dedicated the year to rebuilding his voice. Off the mic, he's a career software engineer, and he built Gruvvy for the same reasons he built the stream: independent musicians deserve better tools than the ones they've been handed. Gruvvy is a musician's portal and a single home for an artist's audio — streaming, distribution, live recordings, and catalog in one place, with a royalty model that pays artists from the listeners who actually play them.
